Signs of fall - snapping turtle crossing road

Traffic stops on old Highway 2 near Glen Walter as drivers use a shovel to help a snapping turtle cross the road. The turtle is looking for a place to hibernate for the winter. Tortue serpentine  (Chelydra serpentina)

 LICENCE TO THRILL

A James Bond Festival at The Port Theatre – Cornwall, Ontario - September 6, 2025

Three Bond Girls - Caroline Munro, The Spy Who Loved Me (Left), Valerie Leon, The Spy Who Loved Me, and Never Say Never Again (Centre), Martine Beswicke,  From Russia with Love, (Right) leave Port Theatre, Cornwall, Ontario, Sept 6, 2025

Valerie Leon

Most interesting story: Little blond boy who watches Bond's car drive out of the sea in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) was Jaws (Richard Kiel)'s son. I was going to ask Martine Beswicke about her movie 'Seizure', Oliver Stone's directoral debut horror movie, which her co-star Mary Woronov said had some money laundered by a gangster, but thought it might harsh the mood.
Munro also said Kiel loved the peach pies at Marie Callender's, a restaurant chain he took her to in California.
Bartender served complimentary Martinis that were shaken, not stirred. Grey Goose vodka, Martini dry vermouth.

Parc historique Gagnon Historical Park

Gagnon is a small village near Ottawa that started in the 1880s from two sawmills along the CN railway line.   It became kind of a ghost town when the cheese factory closed in the 1940s and gradually the village dwindled in population - this park was set up in 2001 to commemorate the village.

Little library by a nice bench.

125 cm saw blade from the Shaver mill that was one of the founding industries of the village.

Pétanque court. Pétanque is a bowling game with steel balls that was imported to Canada by immigrants from the south of France in the 1950s in Quebec City and Montreal.

Exposed timbers of the 1880 Pommainville Heritage House, which was moved to the village, showing the marks made by a broad axe.

Trujillo was the name of  Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic between 1930 and 1961 under the dictator Rafael Trujillo, until his assassination.
Canton probably is the city of Guangzhou in the south of China. It was briefly the capital of the Republic of  China until the KMT fled China at the end of 1949.
