Vandalized bilingual signs

In 1976, The province of Quebec banned English on commercial signs even though there was a large English speaking community there.

Although this was not a commercial sign, this sign at the Jeffery Hale Hospital in Quebec City was vandalized. c. 1988

Sign in French for the Théâtre de la Sucerie, Casselman, Ontario vandalized c. 1988. It was a dinner theatre and only did shows in French, and so it wouldn't make any sense for it to have an English translation, but the section of the sign for the Sucerie (Sugar Shack) itself was bilingual

In 1988, The Supreme Court of Canada ruled the ban on English was illegal, and the provincial government responded with Bill 178 which allowed for inside bilingual signs. Political organizations in Quebec protested this new law.
