Can't be that hard.

I realized that I haven't read a novel or even a non-fiction book in years, so I've started reading Proust's Remembrance of Things Past. All seven volumes. In French.

Johnny Clegg, RIP

Johnny Clegg died today. I got to talk to him in Sainte-Foy after a concert around 1989. He told me how to say Cetshwayo, a Zulu king, the right way.

I remember watching the band sign autographs - one woman turned the paper sideways and make her signature from the top to the bottom, and starting from the end of her name to the beginning. I asked her why, and she said sadly that she could not read. She made the shape of her signature perfectly legibly and I could read each cursive letter. The Apartheid regime intentionally undereducated black people.
