Cat watches Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony in Barn, and The Magic Flute

c. August 14, 1995 - A cat watches the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony in a barn near Durham, Ontario.

Michael Schmidt is a dairy farmer who also used to put on concerts and operas in a barn until recently when the fire marshal said he had to make the barn up to code if he wanted to keep on doing it. I think they were playing Haydn's Creation.

Schmidt is also known for his struggle to be allowed to distribute unpasteurized milk

Some performers  were from the Six Nations reserve near Brantford. This is from 1996's production of The Magic Flute.

Hillside Festival, maybe 1998?

The Hillside Festival in Guelph, maybe 1998 or earlier?

 Sandy Horne playing bass - I am not sure if the band was billed as The Spoons at that festival - it was a different line up than in the early 80s. The first time I saw them in 1981, her hair was brown and in a odango (two buns like Sailor Moon) style. She was easy to recognize because I always saw her shopping for groceries in Guelph (and she was always dressed like a rock star when she was shopping, much more than she is in these photos!)

Gave him a ride home back to Toronto. He tried to feed me ice cream that he might have lifted from a store while I drove.  Kids these days will never know the oddness of having a Juno award winning musician trying to force purloined frozen dessert on you like you're a baby robin at 3 a.m. on Highway 8.
