Narita, Japan, 1998

I guess I've been to Japan three times - I passed through it going back and forth to Malaysia in the fall of 1998 and Thailand and as a destination in 2000.

I didn't have time to see Japan the first time, and the return I only had a bit of a layover - enough to take the train to Narita city and quickly see a temple. I had to use a cheap camera that I bought after I broke mine. I got out of the station and happened on the temple.

The street leading up to the temple looked like it had been a tourist destination for centuries. A shopkeeper said 'Good Morning' to me in English as he opened his shop for the day.
