Hepatica, 2016

The hepatica (Anemone americana) is the first wildflower of the spring. Called the snow breaker in other languages, and also the liverleaf because of the first leaves dark colour and shape. The later leaves are green - I guess there's some kind of frost protection in the red leaves as they survive under the snow.
