Joke of the kalpa

“The one who plants trees, knowing that he will never sit in their shade, has at least started to understand the meaning of life.” ― Rabindranath Tagore

Or they're growing bonsais.

Upside down luck

Lunar New Year decorations on door. Character for Luck (centre) is upside-down to symbolize luck being poured out and to make a pun on the words arrive and turn upside down. My Japanese girlfriend nicknamed me 'Fuku', luck, same as this character.

Nicht kalte Ente, sondern kalte Gänse.

Not cold duck, but cold geese. Another bilingual joke. 'Cold Duck' is a spritzer made from white wine and champagne. The name comes from 'Cold ends (of the bottles of wine used to mix them together)', which sounds like 'cold duck' in German.

It's minus 26 c. and the river is still open, with plumes of mist floating off it. The geese are huddled up on the ice. I saw some hock (German white wine) glasses at Value Village and thought of this very bad joke.

'Hock' is a generic term in English for German white wines. It comes from the town of Hochheim, which was a centre of the wine trade.

Hock Glasses with their usual green stems and grape designs.

Macadamia nuts being shelled at home

Macadamia nuts. The shells are hard as aluminum so they are precut and there's a key to split them open.
