Oculus Rift
Last month I tried an Oculus Rift headset - it was just like looking at two small cell phone displays a few inches away from your eyes - I can appreciate the tracking and ability to virtually manipulate objects, but I don't think it will ever get over the discomfort and eye strain inherent in trying to focus on objects that are nearby but the brain sees as being far away - it might not be good at all for children whose eyes are still developing.

Fire on water, Forges du Saint-Maurice National Historic Site, 1989
There is a methane seep on the shore of the St. Maurice River at the Old Forge historic site. The flames burn above the water if you light it with a match or paper.

Imperial Bell, in 1989
This was a porn theatre in Lower town in 1989 - it was originally a very fancy concert hall but the area became a prostitution and drug area - it was called Midi-Minuit (noon to midnight) during its porn days. I never went in but the facade was beautiful under all the grime - I thought it would be demolished, but I'm very glad to see it was renovated into an arts theatre that opened in 2015. Imperial Bell

Universal Travel Agency, Ironwood, Michigan, August 1999
I wish I had a better photo of these 50s era signs - the name would make it a perfect setting for a science fiction movie.

Musee de l'horlogerie et science diorama, Manseau, Quebec 1990
A clock making and science museum in the front rooms of a house in a town of about 900, I never visited it, but took notice of it. Can't find anything online about it and not there anymore. Update December 6, 2020 - found some info - the museum was founded by Jean-Marie St-Pierre, a few years after his retirement in
1985, in his old shop, which featured watches, clocks, scientific instruments and a butterfly collection by Johnathan Sylvestre. It closed temporarily in 1992 and was supposed to reopen in a ecological park in Manseau - https://municipalites-du-quebec.ca/manseau/custom/chronique10.pdf
There is a clock and watch repair and manufacturing school, the only one in Canada, not far away in Trois-Rivières
