Scarborough Bluffs, November 1991

These are some photos of the Scarborough Bluffs in Toronto I took in November of 1991 - might be fun to compare these to see how erosion has changed them. They are mostly sand.
It looks like there was a tide going out! It must have been water flowing back after being piled up by the wind.

The GPS info were added later by me and is just a guess - also, I know this was in November 1991, not sure of day.

Hickory Tussock Moth catterpillar

These are supposed to have an itching venom on them and even a poisonous bite - didn't bite me or make me itch, but probably it takes the hairs to break off in your skin to do that. On its way to make a cocoon - it uses its hairs in the construction so the cocoon also will be painful to predators.

The adventures of the solitary unicyclist

From about 1991 - went down the steep hill to downtown Guelph from the University on a unicycle!

Orchid the polydactyl brewery cat

Orchid is a polydactyl cat at Beau's Brewery in Vankleek Hill - she had these 'thumbs' on her front paws - also she had 3 ovaries - she also is ginger colored, which the people at the brewery says is usually something only male cats are.  (Some females are but it is rarer - both of their parents have to be ginger)

Yes, she does scratch when you rub her belly! Doesn't draw blood but they are efficient claws!

The World's End - English-to-English translation fail

"Fag end" can mean a cigarette butt in British English, or just the worn out end of anything real or metaphorical. "fag" in North American mean homosexual...so they translated it to "cigarette" but "cigarette end" only means a cigarette end in North American - the paragraph abruptly stops making sense here!
I'm going to see this movie - I really liked "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz", the other two films in the 'Cornetto' series.
I see that the plot is like the the original novel of "The (invasion of the) Body Snatchers" - the aliens leave when they figure out that the people they're trying to help by building a better version of them don't want to be helped.

States of Decay

 Somewhere around Brasher Falls, NY
New York City 1991

Old post office and customs house, November 2013, corner Park and Zimmerman,  Niagara Falls, Ontario - once this neighbourhood was the commercial centre of Niagara Falls, now it is isolated and has a vacant lot and other abandoned buildings nearby.

Juxtapose This!

Note that the girls are holding "Canadian Money" (probably the google search that got the images) but it's Canadian Tire money - just coupons - the green ones are worth 10 cents!
Or a young voyeur...
This was a mail ad from American Express in the early 90s - OK, to illustrate a trip contest a plane is a good stock photo - except this isn't a passenger plane - it's a B-2 Stealth nuclear bomber!
Not as large as hers, I hope.

Double-crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus)

I think it's a double crested cormorant - normally they don't let me come close to them at all but this one slid into the water when I was about 15 feet away.

Akwesasne Powwow 2013

Dancers and a flint tool making demonstration, Akwesasne Powwow 2013. This is an annual event held on the first weekend after Labour Day. What the dancers are wearing should be called Regalia and not costumes - also, some of the dances like the Grand Entry should not be recorded - the Master of Ceremonies will tell you.

Flint tools - Akwesasne is a Mohawk reserve - Mohawks are called "People of the flint" in their own language - flint was an important material for making things like arrow heads, knives and other cutting tools.
